Since our first Warren County Junior Firefighter Competition in 2011, we have had over 35 different fire departments from six states participate in our event. Over the years hundreds of junior firefighters, fire cadets, and fire explores have competed. It has grown to be knows as "North Carolina's Biggest Junior Firefighter Competition!"
Most of you know that we had to cancel the 2020 Competition due to the pandemic. We were unsure whether to have the 2021 Competition, but we decided to move forward with planning and scheduled it for the last weekend of April, as we usually do (April 23-24, 2021).
However, Warren County Government has yet to rescind its events suspension imposed this past March. And following the election the NC Governor issued executive orders instituting additional restrictions on gatherings (10 people indoors; 50 people outdoors), and requiring the wearing of face coverings indoors and outdoors. As a contingency, we were scouting alternate venues in Virginia but last week the Virginia Governor also tightened restrictions on gatherings to a maximum of 25 individuals. Additionally, the City of Raleigh has cancelled all events through March 2021. While this does not affect us directly, the concern is that other local governments may follow suit.
All of this makes the April 23-24, 2021 date an uncertainty, especially since we normally start sending out solicitations for sponsors and vendors following Thanksgiving (next week) and open up team registrations after the first of the year (5 weeks away).
Following discussions with the advisors and senior junior firefighters, we decided to move the Competition to June. Taking into consideration high school graduations and summer fire camps, we chose the second weekend in June.
So, everybody mark your calendars and set your reminders:
The 11th annual Warren County Junior Firefighter Competition is June 11-12, 2021 (tentatively).
[Ironically, the inaugural Warren County Junior Firefighter Competition was also the second weekend in June: June 10-11, 2011--all the other ones have been the last week in April (except for one that was the first week in May).]

Looking ahead to 2021 we're thinking about possible junior firefighter summer training camps for our members to attend since we didn't get to go to any in 2020.
If you've been to any of these camps, let us know what you think and would you recommend them for your brethren to attend.
